Our mission

Childhood is sacred.
We exist to protect it.

Restore Childhood is a national nonprofit that protects children from the influence of special interests in health and education. We give parents, children’s best advocates, the stories, evidence and tools to stand up for them.

73 million

children live in the United States. Every one of them deserves the truth about what is done in their name.

Why we began

Parents saw it first.

In 2020, America closed its schools and kept many of them closed longer than almost any other nation. Decisions about children were made without regard for how children grow, and often against the evidence.

Restore Childhood grew out of the fight to reopen New York City’s schools. We learned that when institutions fail children, families need the full record and the means to act on it. That is the work we do today.

What we believe

  1. Childhood is sacred. It deserves protection from passing trends and the loudest voices in the room.
  2. Parents are children’s best advocates.Policy works best when families have the facts and a seat at the table.
  3. Evidence comes first. What we do to children in schools and clinics should follow the science, and the science should be open to question.
  4. Courage is taught by example.Children learn to stand up when they see the people before them do it.
